Utter Nonsense
The fact that this is even a story that requires comment by the Council President and the Mayor tells me that there are some really bitter people out there.
These are the kind of big, breaking stories I leave to the Transcript.
Though I do believe the city should go back to publishing everyone's salaries. They did it every year in the paper, once upon a time. All that information is public and it would help avoid this kind of behind-the-back tattling. I mentioned it again to Ron Boucher last night.
While I agree that she is appropriately paid, I must say that this IS what the Transcript is supposed to be doing... And what they have NOT been doing for too long.
There is definitely a story here, the rules say she should be paid one thing, and she is being paid another. It should be investigated and it was.
I hope to see more of this in the future from The Transcript.
Once the subject raised to the level of a discussion between Boucher and Alcombright, it obviously became newsworthy.
It is the subject itself, and those within City Hall who are obviously unable to come to grips with the simple fact that JBIII lost the election that make my head spin.
I don't disagree that it's newsworthy - anything happening in City Hall is - but I question its level of newsworthiness.
Experience is often taken into account when determining which step an employee should start out - not everyone starts at the bottom. Not really big news there.
More pertinent, perhaps, is how Alcombright envisions the position changing to justify the increase.
And while this what the Trancript should be doing (which I would be doing if I actually had reporters), why now?
