Should it stay? Or should it go?
Rumor has it that tomorrow is the day that the fate of the Subway/Purple Pub/Perfect Blend building will be decided. Evidently the structure can be rehabbed, but at a considerable cost. Tomorrow the owner will visit the property for the first time since the fire and decide whether it makes more sense to call a carpenter or a bulldozer.
For the sake of all involved, I hope and pray that those individuals who were directly impacted by the fire be given first dibs on space in any new construction, should that be the decision that David Paresky makes.

I would be willing to bet that should the Pub's fate be known to the Williams Alumni, there is no alum worth their Williams diploma that would let the Purple Pub fade from existence. The others sure, but the Purple Pub is as much a part of the Williams experience as the Purple Cow and smoking cigars at the barber shop after the Williams/Amherst football game.
It wouldn't surprise me if Williams itself lent a hand in keeping the tradition alive.

I was chatting with Roger at the barber shop last fall. Since the college is his landlord, the football players can no longer smoke cigars in his shop while they get their heads shaved. (Rumor has it that they still sneak a beer or two into the bathroom, though.)
As for the Pub, Mary has told us that the business was not well insured and that if it is torn down, she is S.O.L.. The brand "Purple Pub" is valuable in and of its own right. Hopefully, she can capitalize on that. Considering the memorabilia collection she has, if somebody were to buy the name, itself, and re-open somewhere nearby, they would probably find success. (Kinda like Pappa Charlies)
