  This Old House episode 744
Did you know that leaving a fully charge cordless drill battery in the charger while the cradle is unplugged will completely discharge the battery?

I do... as of a few minutes ago.

So much for tonight's project. There will still be a hole in my kitchen ceiling in morning. Oh well.

Comments:
That's odd, what be the current draw? Is it a dual charger and one cell was not charged so the charge when from one cell to the other and eventually to no charge because of heat loss?

Nope, none of the above. But I think I figured it out. When I unplugged the charger, I let both prongs of the transformer plug rest on the counter..... which is made of stainless steel. Oops.
